Cognac Laurent Merlin Vintage 1966 – Petite Champagne
This 1966 vintage Cognac comes from Laurent Merlin, a small family-owned estate founded in 1870 in Arthenac, in the heart of the Petite Champagne region. Made exclusively from ugni blanc grown on chalky limestone soils, it was distilled and aged by Laurent Merlin himself, and likely bottled in the 1980s, as indicated by the social contribution symbol on the label (a tax introduced in 1983).
Discreet yet highly regarded, the estate supplied some of France’s finest restaurants, including Taillevent, La Tour d’Argent, Bocuse, and even national institutions such as the Assemblée Nationale and the Sénat. After Laurent’s passing in the 1990s, his daughter Carmen carried on the work before selling the remaining stocks in the 2010s.
Now rare, this 1966 vintage expresses the elegance and depth of well-aged Petite Champagne Cognac — a spirit as moving as it is refined.
