Cognac Boutelleau VSOP – 3L Jeroboam from the 1960s
This 3-litre jeroboam comes from Boutelleau, a cognac house founded in 1849 in Barbezieux by Louis Edmond Boutelleau. For over a century, the company operated independently under the name Union des Propriétaires de Vignobles Boutelleau et Cie., with its distillery and ageing cellars located at 18 Rue Sadi Carnot.
Still producing its own cognacs in the 1960s, Boutelleau followed traditional ageing practices, often maturing its eaux-de-vie well beyond modern standards. This VSOP reflects that style, offering the depth typical of the period. The label features the house’s emblem — a shield with three daggers and a star.
Production ceased in 1980, and the brand was later acquired by Tiffon, who continued bottling the remaining stocks under the Boutelleau name for a time.
An interesting note: Jacques Boutelleau, better known by his pen name Jacques Chardonne, belonged to this family. He co-directed the Stock publishing house alongside Maurice Delamain, whose family is also well known in the cognac world. The two families had close ties dating back to childhood.
