Cognac Boutelleau Extra – 3L Jeroboam from the 1950s

This rare 3-litre jeroboam dates back to the 1950s and was produced by Boutelleau, a house established in 1849 in Barbezieux. At the time, production was fully local, with distillation and ageing facilities located at 18 Rue Sadi Carnot.

The Extra designation on this cognac indicates a particularly long ageing period, far exceeding the standard minimums. This extended time in oak is clearly visible in the deep amber colour of the spirit — a sign of both maturity and concentration. The style is unmistakably traditional, with rich, evolved characteristics.

The label bears the emblem of the house: three daggers pointing to a star.

Boutelleau ceased production in 1980. The brand and remaining stocks were acquired by Tiffon, which continued to release bottles under the Boutelleau name for several years.

Of literary interest: Jacques Chardonne, born Jacques Boutelleau, was part of this family. He co-directed Éditions Stock with Maurice Delamain, whose family is also linked to the world of cognac. The Boutelleau and Delamain families shared close ties from an early age.
