Exshaw Cognac was founded in 1805 by John Exshaw. He bought young cognacs and left them to mature in France, a radical departure from the custom of the time, as most English merchants sent their cognacs to London to age.
His son Thomas-Henri continued the business and exported to various countries where England was dominant. The company acquired great prestige and was very popular in the first half of the 20th century. However, after the Second World War, it lost a large part of its market share and began to decline.
In 1975, it was bought by Otard.
Exshaw Cognac has been off the market for some time, but although it is still possible to buy vintage bottles, Exshaw Cognac is no longer produced. The number 1 Exshaw is very popular.
The flagship productions are the XO and the Extra Age d'Or, both Grande Champagne.
